JUNIOR MUSIC SCHOOL
(Kindergarten – Year 1 in 2018)

The Junior Music School program will be developed by leading early childhood music specialists and will include a range of developmental music and movement programs involving singing, playing, listening, moving, visual and dramatic art activities.

TIMETABLE
Each child will be placed in a class based on their Year at school and activities will be conducted in these groups. The Junior Music School timetable will be flexible and fluid in order to meet the demands of the children and the program. There will be suitable fruit, recess and lunch breaks throughout the school day. Students are required to bring their own food and drink as these will not be provided. There will be a “show and tell” performance opportunity at the end of each day where students may perform or experience the work of other areas of the school.

 

PRIMARY MUSIC SCHOOL
(Years 2 – 4 in 2018)

TIMETABLE
The Primary Music School day will be divided into 5 sessions and a “show and tell” performance opportunity at the end of each day. All students are required to take one beginner Instrument and one elective, and be part of one ensemble chosen from the following.  Please note that this is not the application form.

There will be a “show and tell” performance opportunity at the end of each day where students may perform or experience the work of other areas of the school. On Friday January 13, 2018 there will be an Open Day for a portion of the day TBA, and on January 18 an early evening performance for parents and friend. These are the only times that the music school will be open to the public.

BEGINNER INSTRUMENTS
Violin – each child needs to  hire or bring their own instrument
Cello – each child needs to  hire or bring their own instrument
Keyboard – instrument provided
Tiger Oboe – each child needs to  hire or bring their own instrument
Drumming – instrument provided but own drums sticks may be required
Ukulele – each child needs to bring their own instrument
Clarinet – each child needs to  hire or bring their own instrument
Recorder  – each child needs to bring their own instrument
Guitar – each child needs to  hire or bring their own instrument
Voice – you are never too young to start learning – instruments supplied

SENIOR MUSIC SCHOOL
(Years 5 – 12 in 2018)

TIMETABLE
The Senior Music School day will be divided into 5 sessions with a “show and tell” performance opportunity at the end of each day where students may perform or experience the work of other areas of the school. On Friday January 12, 2017 there will be an Open Day for a portion of the day, and on January 19 an early evening performance for parents and friends. These are the only times that the music school will be open to the public.

All students are required to take one beginner Instrument, two electives, and be part of one ensemble chosen  from the following. Please note that this is not the application form.

ADVANCED MUSIC PROGRAM
(aged 14 – 21 years and AMEB Grade 5+)

This program is designed for students who wish to be challenged by high level music-making, composition and performance. Under the tutelage of leading musicians, the program will provide participating students with skills in composition, performance practice, improvisation, ensemble playing, aural and musicianship skills.

TIMETABLE
The daily timetable of the Advanced Music Program will be at the discretion of the staff with a “show and tell” performance opportunity at the end of each day in various parts of the school to display work and to mentor younger musicians. On Friday January 12, 2017 there will be an Open Day for a portion of the day, and on January 18 an early evening performance for parents and friends. These are the only times that the music school will be open to the public.

 REFUND POLICY
Please note that the YMS has a strict refund policy in place. Please do not enquire about waivering these restrictions.
Applications will only be accepted after the full non-refundable deposit has been paid. The remainder of fees will be due two weeks before the event.  Once the remainder of the fee has been paid an appropriate partial refund will only be granted with the production of a medical certificate.

EXPECTATIONS AND PROCEDURES
Although YMS seldom experiences problems in student behaviour, the following policy steps are in place:

  1. Student is given a verbal warning by SMS staff
  2. Student is seated away from the rest of the class
  3. A member of the SMS Office is asked to come down to talk to the student
  4. The student is sent to the SMS Office area for time-out (parents are notified)
  5. Student is required to sit out for the remainder of the day
  6. In extreme cases the student will be expelled for the duration of Summer Music School (no refund will be extended)

AFTER SCHOOL EXTENSION PROGRAM
The YMS Summer Music School is offering After School Extension Program each day until 5:30pm for Kindergarten and Primary aged students only. The After School Extension program  can only be booked for the 2 weeks (no daily or weekly rates) at an additional cost per child TBA – payable in advance!

CHILD CARE BENEFIT
The YMS Summer Music School is registered for the Child Care BENEFIT. Certificates will only be issued on request for this program. All details of this program can be obtained from CentreLink.
